An orthopedic urgent care visit for an acute injury typically includes intake, imaging (X-ray and/or MRI), specialist evaluation, same-day treatment (casting, splinting, injection, or medication), and a clear follow-up plan — all in a single visit.
Before You Arrive: What to Bring
- Your insurance card and a photo ID
- A list of current medications and any known allergies
- Brief description of how and when the injury occurred
- Any prior imaging (X-rays, MRI) of the same area if available
- Workers’ comp claim number and adjuster information (if applicable)
- Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the injured area
Step 1: Arrival and Intake
When you arrive, our front desk staff will collect your basic information — name, date of birth, insurance, and reason for your visit. New patients will complete a brief intake form. If you are in significant pain, please let the front desk know so we can prioritize your care.
Step 2: On-Site Imaging
For most acute orthopedic injuries, imaging is ordered before or alongside your physician evaluation. At Restore Orthopedics, we have on-site digital X-ray and MRI. X-ray takes 5 to 10 minutes; MRI provides more detailed soft tissue information and can be completed the same day at our facility.
Step 3: Physician Evaluation
Your treating physician — an orthopedic surgeon or sports medicine specialist — will review your imaging and perform a focused physical examination, explain findings, and discuss your treatment options.
Step 4: Same-Day Treatment
- Casting or splinting — for fractures requiring immobilization
- Joint aspiration — draining a swollen, painful joint
- Corticosteroid injection — for inflammatory conditions (bursitis, tendinitis)
- Prescription medications — anti-inflammatories, pain medications
- Physical therapy referral — with specific instructions for your injury
- Surgical consultation scheduling — if operative management is indicated
Step 5: Your Follow-Up Plan
Before you leave, you will receive clear written instructions about activity restrictions, pain management, wound care (if applicable), follow-up appointments, and warning signs that warrant an earlier return. Most patients with acute injuries are scheduled for a follow-up visit within 1 to 2 weeks.
